22/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 22 November, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has again reiterated that his party, Fidesz, could leave the European People's Party (EPP) on its own, according to Reuters. This statement follows the EPP Congress in Zagreb, where the issue was discussed alongside this Congress. The new president, Donald Tusk, announced in particular that a decision on the party, currently suspended from the EPP, would be taken at the end of January (see EUROPE 12374/2). On the radio, the Hungarian leader said he was waiting for the EPP to clarify “its views and intentions” and that “we will then take our decision”, he added, adding that he had always said that Fidesz had itself initiated and accepted its suspension last March. The Hungarian leader had already said at the time that his party could leave the EPP on its own. (SP)
