19/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On 19 November, the EU and Serbia signed an agreement on border management cooperation between this Western Balkan country and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex). The agreement was signed by Finnish Minister of Interior Maria Ohisalo and Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos. A press release explains that Frontex will now be able to coordinate operational cooperation between EU member states and Serbia and assist the latter in conducting joint operations and deploying teams in Serbian regions bordering the EU (subject to Serbia’s agreement). These activities aim to combat illegal immigration and cross-border crime. (SP)
