€200 million for promotion of EU agricultural products in 2020

On Monday 18 November, the European Commission adopted a decision on the 2020 work programme on information and promotion actions concerning agricultural products in the internal market and non-Member States.

For 2020, €100 million will be allocated to ‘simple’ programmes, while €91.4 million will be allocated to ‘multi’ programmes. €9.5 million are earmarked for Commission initiatives (participation in fairs and communication campaigns, diplomatic offensives led by the Commissioner for Agriculture).

An additional €17.2 million from the 2019 multi-promotion programmes will reinforce these initiatives, providing additional support for cheese and butter, olive oil and table olives in a difficult global market.

In 2020, €118 million will be used to finance campaigns in non-Member States with “high growth potential” (Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, the United States and Mexico), the Commission explains. Eligible sectors include dairy products and cheese, table olives, olive oil and wine. “The selected campaigns are expected to enhance the competitiveness and consumption of EU agri-food products, raise their profile and increase their market share in these targeted countries”, says a statement. The calls for proposals for 2020 will be published next January. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
