Croatian Presidency of EU Council wants to defend a strong Europe in a world of challenges

Croatia, which will take over the Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2020, is gradually unveiling its priorities. The country, the last to join the EU and of which this will be its first Presidency, has chosen as its slogan "A strong Europe in a world of challenges".

Thus, Croatia wishes to promote a developing Europe, with balanced regional development, environmental protection and fighting climate change, strengthening of competitiveness and skills and a more satisfied and vital society.

Europe must also be connected, according to the incoming Presidency, which will work on a single European transport area, an integrated energy market, a high-quality and secure data infrastructure and stronger connections between Union citizens.

Zagreb makes security a priority, particularly with regard to strengthening internal security and resilience to hybrid threats, a comprehensive and sustainable migration policy and the protection of freedoms and democracy.

Finally, Croatia wants the EU to have a global influence. To this end, it intends to make the EU a leading international player, a global partner that guarantees progress and stability in South-Eastern Europe and has the capacity to react in the event of a crisis.
