Illegal downloads of digital content declining, according to EUIPO

04/11/2019 (Agence Europe)Young Europeans seem less inclined to download digital content illegally. According to a survey published on Monday 4 November by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), 51% of young Europeans aged 15 to 24 say they have not used, read, downloaded or broadcast content from illegal sources in the last 12 months. That was only 40% 3 years earlier. Fewer of them also deliberately use illegal sources of digital content, such as music, films, tv shows and games: 21% in 2019 compared to 25% in 2016. The results suggest that this reduction could be linked to the increasing availability and accessibility of subscriptions to services offering digital content. However, it should be noted that there has been a slight increase in online purchases of counterfeit products. (SPj)
