04/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – Huawei continues its seduction operation in Europe. On Monday, 4 November, the Chinese equipment manufacturer issued a press release highlighting its contribution to the European economy: €12.8 billion added to European GDP in 2018, 169,700 jobs supported by its activities and €1.8 billion in direct taxes paid in 2018. The same day, the AFP news agency announced that Huawei intended to spend US$40 billion in 5 years to source supplies from Europe. "We can no longer supply ourselves in the United States, so we are increasing our supply in China, Japan and Europe to ensure that our production lines will not be interrupted", said Ernest Lin Zhang, President for Western Europe of Huawei's corporate activities. The OEM also expressed support for a European sovereign cloud, explaining how to provide the equipment to operators offering this type of service. (SPj)
