29/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission could decide on Wednesday 30 October to open an in-depth investigation into the proposed acquisition of the French company Chantiers de l'Atlantique by the Italian group Fincantieri, as this transaction could harm competition at European and global levels (see EUROPE 12167/19). France and Germany had asked the Commission to examine this proposed acquisition on the basis of the EU Merger Regulation. According to sources quoted by Reuters, on Wednesday the Commission is expected to present the result of its preliminary investigation and is said to be concerned about the consequences of the risk of reducing the number of European players in the shipbuilding sector from three to two.
