29/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – At the initiative of Miguel Urbán Crespo (GUE/NGL, Spain), some 50 MEPs from the GUE/NGL and Greens/EFA groups are calling on the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, to take the initiative to criticise the repression of the social movement against high cost of living in Chile, which has left 15 people dead so far. In particular, they call on the EU to activate the democracy clause of the EU/Chile Association Agreement, or even, in the event of failure, the suspension clause of the bilateral agreement. According to them, if the army remains on the streets and repression continues in the country, no international events should take place in Chile, while the UN COP25 climate conference is scheduled to start on 2 December in Santiago.
