24/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 24 and Friday 25 October, Paris is hosting the international meeting to replenish the Green Climate Fund for the 2020-2023 period. This is essential to compensate for losses from American sources and to keep the promise to allocate $100 billion a year by 2020 and beyond to developing countries. The hope is to raise $10 billion. $7.5 billion already pledged by 16 donors must be confirmed. At the Biarritz G7 meeting, France announced a doubling of its contribution ($1.5 billion), that of Germany, the United Kingdom and Norway (see EUROPE 12313/4). Sweden, Luxembourg and Denmark did the same at the New York Climate Action Summit (see EUROPE 12334/7). Japan's contribution, so far the largest contributor to the Fund, is highly anticipated, as are those of other countries (Italy, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, New Zealand). (AN)
