The European Commission and its Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) approved on Monday 21 October 81 campaigns to promote EU agri-food products in and outside the EU for the next three years.
The selected campaigns will receive a total of €200 million in European funding. The programmes aim at helping producers promote the quality of their products and open new markets. They focus on a number of priorities such as highlighting the quality of European food, with geographical indications or organic production methods.
The 'simple' promotion programmes (submitted by a single Member State) represent half (€98.7 million, including €5.2 million for a Spanish project in the wine and cider sector) of the budget allocated to the promotion policy. The remaining €100 million is allocated to multi-country programmes (€90.5 million) and the Commission's own initiatives (€9.5 million).
Of the 81 programmes selected, 55 target countries outside the EU (Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico, India). The campaigns selected will cover a wide range of products such as dairy products, olives and fruit and vegetables.
