21/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU has decided to increase its humanitarian aid by 2 million euros for the most vulnerable populations still suffering from the conflict in Libya, the European Commission announced on Monday 21 October. This funding from ECHO (the Commission's humanitarian aid department) will go to NGOs and the International Committee of the Red Cross so that they can provide emergency health care, food, livelihood support, and protection of persons. “It will enable our humanitarian partners to continue to provide assistance in hard-to-reach areas”, says Christos Stylianides, Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, who calls for full respect for international humanitarian law. This funding will bring the EU's humanitarian effort in Libya to 8 million euros this year and more than 46 million euros since 2014. (AN)
