17/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – France launched a new call for new rules to regulate major online platforms at a press conference following the Franco-German Ministerial Council on Wednesday 16 October in Toulouse, as announced in our columns the day before (see EUROPE 12349/17). “I proposed to the German Chancellor that we develop new rules at the European level to regulate large platforms with faster sanction mechanisms”, said French President Emmanuel Macron, after widely criticising Google’s position on the Copyright Directive. France has already co-signed two declarations on a revision of the competition rules with Berlin, one in February and the other in July (this time with Poland) (see EUROPE 12192/16, 12289/12). (SPj)
