Brussels, 17/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – Representatives of the European Parliament and the EU Council are expected to meet on Wednesday 23 October to open their negotiations on the regulation laying the foundations for the future taxonomy on sustainable finance, which will assess, sector by sector, the ecological sustainability of economic activities (see EUROPE 12026/4). One of the main differences with the position of the European Parliament (see EUROPE 12224/1) is that the EU Council text (see EUROPE 12333/8) does not mention predefined sectors. Parliament had indeed introduced provisions to its text to ensure that investments in solid fossil fuel activities could never fall into the category of sustainable financial products. MEPs from Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) will vote on Monday 21 October to open interinstitutional negotiations.
