Fifty airports in Europe certified carbon neutral, announces European airport industry

17/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – With the successful upgrade today of six Lapland Airports run by Finavia (the Finnish airport operator) to Level 3+ Neutrality, there are now 50 carbon neutral airports in Europe, ACI Europe (Airports Council International Europe) announced on Wednesday 16 October. This status is certified by an independent airport carbon accreditation program, launched by ACI Europe in 2009 based on the global CO2 management standard. "Just 3 years after committing to 100 carbon neutral airports by 2030, the European airport industry is now halfway through to achieve that goal. The 50 airports handle more than a quarter of the continent's passenger traffic", says Olivier Jankovec, ICA Europe's Director General. The European airport industry is committed to achieving the objective of zero net CO2 emissions by 2050.
