In a context where the livestock sector is under severe pressure, a dozen organisations decided on 25 September to join forces at EU level to communicate truths about the effects and contribution of the European livestock sector.
European Livestock Voice has developed its own online information portal to verify the accuracy of the most frequently made statements about livestock production, consumption and its benefits.
"Our sector supports a great number of jobs and industries, it contributes to the circular approach within the EU bioeconomy, while also ensuring a steady and affordable supply for sufficient, safe and nutritious food, as well as many other products and by-products, needed for a healthy lifestyle or Europe’s cultural and creative industries", explain the EU cooperatives and agricultural organisations (Copa-Cogeca).
Removing livestock farming from Europe, in other words a "Livestock Exit", would have severe consequences, according to the 11 organisations behind the information platform.
MEPs Alexander Bernhuber (EPP, Austria) and Jérémy Decerle (Renew Europe, France), themselves farmers, supported the launch of this platform: https://meatthefacts.eu (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
