07/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 June, the spokeswoman for the European External Action Service denounced the sentencing of Vietnamese environmental activist, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, to 6 years imprisonment and 5 years probation, for having “produced, disseminated or disseminated information and documents aimed at weakening” the government on Facebook. Considering that this sentence constituted a “worrying development” and a “direct violation of Vietnam's national and international obligations”, the spokesperson called for the immediate release of Nguyen Ngoc Anh and all bloggers and human rights defenders imprisoned for peacefully expressing their opinions. She warned that the EU would continue to monitor the human rights situation and work with the Vietnamese authorities and all parties concerned to improve the situation in the country. (CG)
