The value of EU agri-food exports in March 2019 was €12.6 billion, an increase of 7% compared to the same month last year, while imports reached €10.1 billion, according to the latest monthly trade report published by the European Commission on Thursday 6 June.
In total, the EU's agri-food surplus for March stood at €2.5 billion, an increase of 34%. The highest increases in monthly export values (March 2019 compared to March 2018) were recorded in China (+125 million euros), the United States (+119 million euros) and Egypt (+103 million euros).
In terms of imports, the United States recorded a substantial increase of 138 million euros compared to March 2018. There was also a significant rise from Ukraine (+€87 million) and Ghana (+€48 million). There were drops however in the value of imports from Argentina, Canada and New Zealand.
Export values increased significantly, particularly for wheat (+307 million euros) and spirits and liqueurs (+88 million euros).
There were also significant increases in the import values of soya beans (+€73 million), cereals (+€68 million) and cocoa beans (+€66 million). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
