23/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – Didier Guillaume, French Minister of Agriculture, insisted on "reiterating" France's position on the ongoing negotiations between the EU and the South American Common Market (see EUROPE 12250/17) in a press release issued on Thursday 23 May. Putting an end to rumours circulating within the European institutions about a reversal of the French position, Mr Guillaume reaffirmed “France's clear and firm position" on these talks. Paris "will not ratify any agreement that would harm the interests of French farmers and consumers, the health and food quality requirements of European standards and our environmental commitments under the Paris Agreement", according to the statement. And he recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron expressed "the same resolve" on the subject of trade negotiations with the United States. (HD)
