On Friday 24 May, the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament is expected to receive from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) the scientific studies on the toxicity and carcinogenicity of the active substance glyphosate - studies that had been kept secret by EFSA during the glyphosate licence renewal process in the EU.
EFSA had undertaken to forward these studies on 24 May, in response to the judgment of the EU General Court which, on 7 March, annulled two decisions of the European Authority which had prevented the publication of these studies, the Greens/EFA group recalled on Thursday in a statement (see EUROPE 12209/21).
And to confirm that these documents will be sent to various scientific experts for analysis.
The General Court considered that EFSA should have published these studies in view of their best interests and under European regulations - one on public access to documents, the other applying the Aarhus Convention to EU institutions and bodies.
In so doing, he had ruled in favour of the complainants - four Green MEPs who had lodged a complaint in May 2017, namely Michèle Rivasi (France), Bart Staes (Belgium), Heidi Hautala (Finland) and Benedek Jávor (Hungary) (see EUROPE 11800/17). (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
