08/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On 7 May, David Lidington, Britain’s deputy prime minister, confirmed that British voters will be voting in the European elections on 23 May, as the Tory and Labour parties have not yet completed their discussions on 'Brexit' and the timetable for finalising the agreement before 23 May is too tight. “It is regrettably not going to be possible to finish that process before the date that is legally due for European parliamentary elections”, the minister explained. “We will be redoubling our efforts [...] to make sure that the delay after that is as short as possible. Ideally we’d like to be in a situation where those MEPs never actually have to take their seat at the European Parliament”, the Minister added. 73 British MEPs are due to be elected and could take their seats as early as 2 July when the European Parliament resumes its work.
