08/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Union and the Council of Europe (CoE) officially launched the second phase of the Eastern Partnership for Good Governance on Tuesday 7 May in Brussels. The aim of the partnership, which has a budget of €17.5 million for the period 2019-2021, is to contribute to the strengthening of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. According to the Council of Europe, progress was made during the first phase (2015-2018) in establishing independent anti-corruption bodies and with moving judicial reforms forward. The CoE says that the focus in the second phase will be on providing better, more efficient and more transparent services to citizens. (CG)
