16/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – Julian Assange, Yasmine Motarjemi and Rui Pinto are the three main winners of the prize awarded by the GUE/NGL as “journalists, whistleblowers and defenders of the right to information” on Tuesday 16 April alongside the plenary session. Yasmine Motarjemi, former CEO of Nestlé, denounced the group's shortcomings in food safety. She is the only one of the winners not currently detained. Rui Pinto revealed malpractice in football. He is currently being held in Portugal. Julian Assange is the founder of WikiLeaks. He is currently in custody in the United Kingdom after being given up by the Embassy of Ecuador in London, where he had resided for 7 years. The Parliament added a point of debate on Tuesday evening on the possible extradition of Mr Assange to the United States. (PH)
