On Tuesday, 16 April, the European Commission updated its list of airlines that are subject to flight restrictions or banned in the European Union and targeted several Moldovan carriers.
With regard to withdrawals, it should first be noted that two Angolan airlines, TAAG Angola Airlines (the national company) and Heli Malongo, which have been subject to restrictions since November 2008, have been removed from this list.
However, all but three Moldovan airlines (Air Moldova, Fly One and Aerotranscargo) have been added to the list for lack of safety oversight by the Moldovan Civil Aviation Authority. Moreover, the civil aviation authorities of the Dominican Republic and Belarus will be subject to heightened scrutiny due to indications of decreased safety oversight.
While the last update on this subject last November mentioned 115 companies that are banned in the EU (see EUROPE 12149/34), there are now 120 that are subject to this treatment: 114 from 16 third States due to lack of safety oversight by national authorities and six due to their own safety concerns. Furthermore, four other operators are subject to operational restrictions and can only operate flights within the EU with specific aircraft types. (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
