04/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – EFSA has launched an online public consultation open until 7 May on the reference values for sodium and chloride, the elements of salt, commonly used as an ingredient, condiment or preservative. Draft opinions prepared by EFSA's Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens group consider that for adults (including pregnant and lactating women) the safe and adequate values are 2 g sodium per day and 3.1 g chloride. Provisional values are also proposed for these two nutrients for children of different age groups. To provide comments before the finalisation of these opinions or to participate in the technical meeting on 7 May, interested parties are invited to register online on the EFSA website. (AN)
