04/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Financial Services, Valdis Dombrovskis, called for a European approach to crypto assets on Thursday 4 April. At the Eurofi high-level seminar in Bucharest, he said he had asked his services to "to prepare the ground for actions by the new Commission". For crypto assets already covered by EU rules, European legislation should be reviewed to ensure that it is appropriate for their use. For those types of crypto assets that are not covered, a feasibility study on a possible common regulatory approach at EU level has been launched, he said. Until now, the European Commission had been rather cautious, initially advocating an international response. Last January (see EUROPE 12168/9), the European Financial Supervisory Authorities asked the Commission to consider a legislative initiative on this subject. (MF)
