On Thursday 4 April, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) published the main features of its pilot project called Skills OVATE, which provides detailed information on posts and skills required by employers as they appear in online job vacancies.
This is an initial analysis based on more than 30 million job offers collated within the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy and the United Kingdom. These data, which were collected between 1 July 2018 and 31 December 2018, show that the most requested qualifications are the abilities to adapt to change, to work well in a team, and to be able to use enterprise software. The most sought-after transversal skills are those of financial analysts, chemists or mathematicians.
Skills OVATE complements Cedefop's toolbox, which includes the European Skills Forecasts, the European Skills Index and the European Skills and Employment Survey. Cedefop's intention is to include all EU Member States in this system by the end of the year and to publish the full tool box before the end of 2020.
