22/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU approved, by written procedure on Friday 22 March, the text adopted by the European Parliament's plenary session from 13 March on the measures that the European Union could take in rail transport in the event of a no-deal Brexit (see EUROPE 12213/14). While an informal provisional interinstitutional agreement had been reached between Parliament representatives and the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU on Monday 11 March on this text (see EUROPE 12212/16), MEPs voted in favour of this regulation with an amendment concerning its duration, namely the extension for 9 months of British rail safety authorisations and certificates and British train driver licences in the event of a no-deal Brexit (compared to 7 and 6 months in the agreement). The EU Council agreed with this vote of the parliamentarians and gave the go-ahead. (LT)
