08/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Green Party (EGP) reacted strongly, in a press release of Friday 8 March, against the refusal notified the day before to the USR-PLUS Alliance 2020 - a coalition led by Dacian Cioloş, the former Romanian Commissioner - to present a list in Romania for the May European elections. The Romanian electoral authority, noting that party presidents were not registered in the official national party register, declared that the Alliance 2020 USR-PLUS could not stand for election. The EGP criticises Bucharest for refusing to register for political reasons. "This is an absurd use of bureaucracy to obstruct political participation", said the two co-Spitzenkandidates of the environmentalists, Bas Eickhout (the Netherlands) and Ska Keller (Germany). "This is the first time a list has been rejected since 1990", they added. (LT)
