28/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is about to formalise its decision to allow the United Kingdom to accede to the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). According to a European source, the European Commission will very soon propose to the Council a recommendation for a decision to finalise the procedure for adopting the agreement by 27 February, the date of the next meeting of the GPA Committee in Geneva. The United Kingdom would join the GPA as a full member on 31 December 2020. An agreement in principle on the United Kingdom's post-Brexit accession to the GPA had been sealed at the end of November 2018 This agreement in principle allows London to participate in the GPA after its departure from the EU, scheduled at this stage for 29 March (see EUROPE 12148).
