Commission proposes emergency measures to help EU fishermen overcome a possible ‘no-deal’ Brexit

The European Commission proposed on Wednesday 23 January emergency measures in the event of ‘no-deal’ Brexit to guarantee EU fishermen access to British waters, and vice versa, until the end of 2019 and to compensate those who would have to stop their activities. 

The measures are intended to "help mitigate the significant impact that a ‘no-deal’ Brexitwould have on EU fisheries", the Commission stresses.
