Annual inflation rate declining in euro area and EU in December 2018

The annual inflation rate fell by 0.3 percentage points in both the euro area and the EU between November and December 2018 to 1.6% and 1.7% respectively (see EUROPE 12161), according to a study by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) published on Thursday 17 January. 

Compared to December 2017, however, the annual inflation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points in the euro area, when there was no change in the European Union (see EUROPE 11941).
