09/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The unemployment rate continues to fall, according to the EU Statistics Office (Eurostat), as of Wednesday 9 January. The unemployment rate in the eurozone stood at 7.9% in November 2018, down sharply from 8.7% in November 2017. At the EU level, the unemployment rate is now 6.7% compared to 7.3% during the same period last year. "This remains the lowest rate recorded in the EU28 since the start of the monthly unemployment series in January 2000", the European Commission praised in its statement. However, disparities between Member States remain very wide, with the Czech Republic (1.9%), Germany (3.3%) and the Netherlands (3.5%) showing very low rates on the one hand, and Greece (18.6%), Spain (14.7%) and Italy (10.5%) suffering from very high rates on the other.
