20/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) confirmed on Wednesday 19 December the political agreement reached after a single 'trilogue' between the European Parliament and the EU Council in early December (see EUROPE 12154) on the reform of the '.eu' domain name. In particular, this reform will allow all citizens of the European Union and the countries of the European Economic Area to register a '.eu' domain name, regardless of where in the world they live. A multi-stakeholder group will also be established to advise the Commission on implementation. Once approved by the European Parliament (see EUROPE 12142), the new rules will start to apply from 13 October 2022, with the exception of the possibility of registration for European citizens, which will apply six months after the entry into force of the Regulation.
