20/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament on Wednesday 19 December asked the European Parliament to hold a debate at the next January plenary session on the latest developments in Hungary, described as “worrying and worsening”. The conference of Parliament group leaders will consider this request on the Thursday before this plenary, Parliament said. In recent days, thousands of Hungarians have taken to the streets to demonstrate against an overtime law. The country has also adopted a new law that may affect the handling of certain corruption cases and the independence of the judiciary, according to Judith Sargentini (Greens/EFA, Netherlands), who initiated the opening of the Article 7 procedure against Hungary, which was recently discussed at the General Affairs Council.
