70% of Europeans consume fisheries or aquaculture products at least once a month, but a large number of them regret the high cost of these products, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Thursday 20 December on the subject.
About four in ten consumers (41%) eat these products at home at least once a week.
In 25 of the 28 Member States, a majority of respondents eat fishery or aquaculture products at home at least once a month, with wide variations between countries: 92% in Spain, 87% in Portugal and Sweden, just over half in Romania (55%), Slovenia (54%) and Austria (53%). In the Czech Republic (47%) and Slovakia (45%), just under half of respondents eat these products at home at least once a month (only 28% in Hungary).
Just under one-third of respondents (32%) say they eat fish or aquaculture products in restaurants once a month.
Seven in ten (70%) think they would buy or eat more fish and aquaculture products if the price was not so high. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
