20/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – Member States' ambassadors to the European Union approved the Cybersecurity Act on Wednesday 19 December. This act, designed to protect Europe against online attacks, was the subject of an interinstitutional agreement on 10 December (see EUROPE 12157). The Regulation will create a mechanism for setting up European cybersecurity certification schemes for specific ICT processes, products and services. The Act will also transform the current European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) - whose mandate was due to expire in 2020 - into an EU permanent agency for cybersecurity. Parliament must now validate the agreement, and then it will be the Council's turn. After its adoption, the Regulation will be published in the Official Journal of the EU and will enter into force 20 days after its publication. (CG)
