12/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – Member States' ambassadors to the EU approved on Wednesday 12 December in Brussels the political agreement between the institutions on a multiannual management plan for demersal stocks and their fisheries in Western Waters (see EUROPE 12148). The key target species, counting for around 95% of landings, will be managed in line with the maximum sustainable yield principle (MSY). The plan also incorporates safeguard measures to restore stocks when they fall below safe biological limits. The Council could limit recreational fishing, if scientific advice indicates a significant impact on fishing mortality. (LC)
