On Wednesday 12 December in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted its ambitious position on the architecture and appropriations of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the period 2021-2027.
The report on this dossier by Henna Virkkunen (EPP, Finland), Marian-Jean Marinescu (EPP, Romania) and Pavel Telička (ALDE, Czech Republic) was adopted in plenary with 434 votes in favour, 134 against and 37 abstentions. The mandate has been endorsed to start negotiations with the EU Council of Ministers.
Parliament's position includes almost all the amendments voted on 22 November in its competent committee (see EUROPE 12143).
The total budget of the CEF for 2021-2027 is thus confirmed to be higher than what the Commission is proposing.
Parliament expects a total budget of €43.85 billion at constant 2018 prices, broken down as follows: €33.51 billion for transport, €7.68 billion for energy and €2.66 billion for digital projects.
The EPP Group has proposed clear rules for the €6.5 billion allocated to military mobility, according to Marian-Jean Marinescu. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
