Commission lodges action against Bucharest for failure to comply with its obligations to recover illegal aid

On Friday 7 December, the European Commission referred Romania to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for an infringement action in light of Bucharest failing to recover €92 million in illegal state aid. 

This decision echoes the one taken by the institution on 30 March 2015, whereby it found that Romania had granted several illegal State aid measures to two Swedish investors and their group of companies. The aid was granted following an arbitration tribunal's award in 2013 to compensate...
