Manfred Weber favourite to become the European Christian Democrats' Spitzenkandidat

In Helsinki on Wednesday 7 November, the European People's Party (EPP) opened its annual party conference with a view to appointing its lead candidate ('Spitzenkandidat') ahead of the European elections of May 2019. This person may, in the event of victory, take over from the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker (see EUROPE 12131).
