07/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete will be in China on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November ahead of the COP24 in Katowice (2-14 December) where the rules of application of the Paris Agreement will be finalised. The visit comes further to the joint declaration on climate change and clean energy adopted by the EU and Beijing in July (see EUROPE 12063), showing the two parties’ commitment to step up their political, technical, economic and scientific cooperation to drive forward low carbon economies. The commissioner will hold talks with China’s Special Representative for Climate Xie Zhenhua, and Minister for Ecology and Environment Li Ganjie. He will also give a speech at Tsinghua University Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development. (AN)
