04/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 4 October, the European Commission announced it had released an additional €20 million in emergency humanitarian assistance for the most vulnerable communities in Afghanistan who have become victims of the severe drought and conflict that have intensified since the start of the year. This additional assistance will be channelled through ECHO's humanitarian partners on the ground to cover the most pressing needs – shelters, food, water and water purification, protection and health care. The assistance will be used to help around 400,000 people, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides stated. This financing decision brings the EU's humanitarian aid to €47 million for this country in 2018. (AN)
