04/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 4 October, the MEPs approved (515 votes to 64 and 26 abstentions) the agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council in June (see EUROPE 12044) on the reform of the governance model of Eurojust, the European judicial cooperation agency. Readers may recall that adoption of the positions of the co-legislators on this reform, which was presented in July 2013 (see EUROPE 10890), was delayed due to the link between this dossier and discussions on creating a European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), and then due to the 'data protection' plank. The co-legislators also agreed that once the EPPO is up and running, Eurojust will cease to exercise competence with regard to crimes that come under the EPPO's responsibility. The text also lays down new rules on governance, particularly regarding the procedure to elect its vice-presidents. (MF)
