28/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 28 September, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania signed a protocol of understanding for the ‘Via Baltica – Nord’ initiative, in an effort to set up an experimental 5G corridor for autonomous vehicle tests. The tests undertaken will involve vehicles functioning completely autonomously in the presence of a driver, which represents the third level of autonomy (out of five). This initiative is part of the pan-European 5G network of cross-border corridors launched by the European Commission, 29 EU Member States and the European Economic Area in March 2017. On Thursday, the Commission also launched the European 5G Observatory in an effort to provide the most up to date information on the development of this technology on the market, which could also have an impact on the European markets.
