18/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 18 September, the Council of the EU appointed Susanna Terstal as EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process. "Ms Terstal will take up her duties immediately and has initially been appointed until 29 February 2020", the Council states in a press release. The budget that is allocated to her over this period is €1.73 million. The tasks of the Special Representative are to contribute to actions and initiatives leading to a final settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a two-state solution, notably facilitating and maintaining close contacts with all parties to the peace process. From 2015 to 2018, Terstal was Ambassador of the Netherlands to Iran and for the first two years she represented the EU as there was no EU delegation on the ground. (CG)
