EU hails adoption of amendments to Criminal Procedure Code

On Monday 17 September, several EU representatives, including European Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, hailed the adoption of amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Earlier in the day, the Bosnian Parliament had approved these long-awaited amendments that aim to strengthen the rule of law and the fight against crime and corruption.

In a joint press release, the EU delegation to Bosnia-Herzegovina and the EU Special Representative, "in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina", hailed this adoption, which comes shortly before the general elections on 7 October.  "In a time when the electoral campaign is in full swing, the House of Representatives managed to schedule an urgent session and secure quorum.  All present political parties showed political maturity and did the right thing by voting in the favour for the adoption of the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code", the EU representatives stated.

In their opinion, this adoption is "of great importance for BiH’s further progress on its way towards the EU, and essential for the ability of rule of law institutions to conduct sensitive investigations and cooperate with international law enforcement agencies".  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
