ETUC concern over proposal relating to pan-European personal pension products

07/09/2018 (Agence Europe)In a statement published on Wednesday 5 September, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) calls on co-legislators for pension savings to be fully protected in the proposal for a regulation relating to pan-European personal pension products (PEPP), given that interinstitutional negotiations are to begin (see EUROPE 12087).  While hailing the strengthening of the role of the European and national authorities and the introduction of a preferential reference to investment funds with positive environmental and social impact, the trade unions regret that PEPP providers are not under an obligation to guarantee workers’ pension savings when they place their products on the financial markets.  In addition, ETUC requests that the future regulation does not enter into conflict with the collective pension schemes.  (PH)
