07/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 September, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, who is prepared to fall out with the nationalist political leaders who have made this their hobbyhorse, criticised nationalist solutions to the migration challenge, as he feels they lead nowhere. “Nationalist solutions run counter to our values as they propose taking nobody and flouting asylum law. It is saying that anybody arriving in Europe is unwelcome. This is not our continent's history”, he said, following a meeting in Luxembourg with the Benelux leaders (our translation throughout). He added “it is ineffective, because those who agree on a destructive nationalism can never agree to build together. Because the nationalist of one host country would like more solidarity from the others, but the nationalist of one country who is supposed to exercise this solidarity refuses to take a single migrant”.
