13/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 13 July, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service spoke out against Israel's decision to close the Kerem Shalom crossing point, except for humanitarian provisions, and to restrict the fishing zone for Palestinians. "The EU expects Israel to reverse these decisions", which risk "further aggravating the already dire economic situation in Gaza", the EEAS spokesperson said in a press release. The spokesperson also called on Hamas and other actors in Gaza to refrain from violent actions and provocations against Israel, "including the launching of incendiary kites and balloons". According to the spokesperson, "the focus of all sides" must now be to reduce tensions, maintain intra-Palestinian reconciliation and improve the humanitarian and economic situation in Gaza. (CG)
