13/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – Under an agreement signed in Tbilisi on Thursday 12 July by European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Sytlianides and Georgia's competent authorities, the EU and Georgia will strengthen their cooperation on civil protection and natural disaster risk management. This cooperation will cover the fight against forest fires, floods and search and rescue missions for the victims of natural disasters. The EU will continue its support for the development of the country's civil protection capacities, management of emergency situations and implementation of the national strategy on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks. Since 2010, the EU has financed up to around €4.5 million for activities to prepare against disasters in Georgia. (AN)
